Create a separate district for Chicago charter schools

I am not surprised that the Chicago Tribune in a recent editorial
opposed Interim CEO Terry Mazany’s call for a one-year moratorium on
new charter schools. The stated basis for the proposed moratorium
really is without foundation, i.e., a lack of space in CPS schools to
put charters. The real issue here is not space, because charters can be
approved without providing sites for them and CPS has zero obligation
under the Illinois charter school law to find that space for them.

South Shore students deserve a place in neighborhood’s new high school

As a current student of South Shore High’s School of Leadership, I have
been impacted greatly by the board’s decision to not allow us into the
“new” South Shore school. I’m not going to act like we don’t know why. It is said to us every day
that we aren’t allowed to go to the new school because we aren’t good
enough, or we don’t deserve it. Well, I think we do deserve to go to
the newly built school.
