DonorsChoose, the New York Times, & Victor Harbison Today's New York Times includes a blog post about Chicago teacher (and District 299 regular) Victor Harbison.  According to the post, Harbison "took over the school newspaper, which had produced only three issues in the previous two years – and he was determined to make something of it, even though he only had one computer to be shared by 100 students in four classes. But to produce the newspaper, he needed a digital camera, and so on DonorsChoose he asked for the funds to buy it for the newspaper staff. I chipped in, along with a number of other donors, toward a $250 camera and a memory card, and the school got its camera."

Congrats to Victor and to all the other readers and teachers in Chicago who are going the extra distance to make their classrooms engaging and effective.

I've received well over 30 grants from them. The range of materials include books (for classroom, lending libraries and to keep at home), a digital camera and science materials. They are great and the site is more user friendly than ever. I recommend them highly!
