Despite many last minute changes to state law to make the state more
competitive, Illinois fails to win a piece of the 3.4 billion of federal
education grant money, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced today.

New York and Florida will get $700 million each; Georgia, Ohio and
North Carolina will get $400 million;  Massachusetts will get $250
million; and Hawaii, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia will each
get $75 million. In the press release, Duncan said he is asking Congress for $1.35 billion more to dole out in a Round 3 of Race to the Top.
