28 schools on remediation

In addition to putting schools on probation, the Reform Board also put 28 schools on remediation; seven had been on remediation last year, and 21 are new to the list. All but eight are on the state’s academic watch list.

Eleven of the 28 meet the criterion that placed 109 schools on probation: less than 15 percent of their students meet national norms on a nationally standardized reading test. School officials say other factors kept these schools off probation.

Schools on remediation are listed below. The first column of numbers is the percentage of students who in 1996 scored at or above national norms on the reading portion of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and the Tests of Achievement and Proficiency. The second shows changes between 1995 and 1996 in the percentage of students who met or exceeded state goals on the state IGAP tests.
